Last May the 22nd, a debate at European level was held in Catania on the issue of basin and maritime cooperation, starting from the programs and projects financed in the framework of the current programming period but with a look towards the post-2020 period.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Catania, Enzo Bianco, who stressed the importance of the role of cities for the implementation of cohesion policies and to ensure constant close contact with the territories and citizens, direct beneficiaries of these policies.
In the three working sessions that took place during the day, international, national and regional institutions, Managing Authorities and representatives of projects funded in the framework of European Territorial Cooperation, they discussed the main issues that were open after the publication of the Communication of the European Commission concerning the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
The need emerged to strengthen and to consolidate the dialogue between the subjects involved in the implementation of the Cooperation Programs to add value to the negotiation phase, to share and to disseminate the added value of the basin and maritime cooperation, to optimize the results to ensure now the representation of the most qualifying instances in view of the new programming period. A specific focus was also devoted to mainstreaming, which represents the real challenge to be faced to maximize the impacts of the implementation of the various levels of operational programs.
The Regional Minister of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Patrizio Bianchi, has closed the meeting, underlining the need not to disperse the important wealth of knowledge acquired in the last two programming cycles and to enhance the results achieved to date with a view to strengthening of the Mediterranean vision of development policies.
